Goduma Rava Upma / Broken Wheat Upma


When I was very young the most hated dish is Samba Rava/Wheat upma, I like eat rice upma but I am very hesitant to try  wheat  upma,after reading many health magazine and finding the health benefits  I started to add it in our weekly menu,but now I am big fan of this Veg wheat upma dish.

Cracked Wheat/Sambha rava is made by crushing the whole raw wheat kernels into small pieces.Cracked wheat/samba rava has all the health benefits of wheat flour since it contains the outer bran and germ of the wheat. Also it is high in fibre.
      
                     

This is a very simple and easy to cook and my kids also started liking it. It is good to include this wheat at least once a week considering its nutritional values.


                    

Ingredients:

Cracked Wheat/ Goduma Rava - 1 1/2 Cup
Water - 4 cups
Green chilly -2
Cashew nuts - 5
Red capsicum -1 ( vegetables of your choice)
Peas - 1/2 cup
Ginger -1/4 inch ( Finely Chopped)
Onion - 1 ( Finely chopped)
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Coriander leaves - 1 sprig
Mustard seeds/urad dhal - 1/2 tsp
Salt as per taste
Oil/ Ghee - 4 tbsp


Preparation:

Take 1 1/2 cups of goduma rava and fry in with 2 tbsp ghee for few minutes, This will help not to create lumps at later stage.
Finely chop the vegetables, Onion ,Chilly and ginger.

Method:
 1. In a kadai with oil/ ghee when hot add the mustard seeds,when they crack add the curry leaves,Cashew nuts ,green chilly ,ginger and saute well then add the chopped onion and stir well for a minute.

2. Now add all the veggies ,salt and saute well for 2 minutes and add water to it,when water starts boiling add the godhuma rava slowly to the mixture and stir nicely until the combine.



3. Reduce the heat and stir continuously in low fire so that lumps don't form.When it comes      to a thicker consistency add 2 spns of ghee and finally garnish with coriander leaves and      serve hot.


4. Serve hot with Coriander chutney or tomato chutney. Upma tastes good when it is served  hot.


    
Tips:
1. You can use vegetables like carrot,beans,green capsicum,corn as per your choice.
2. It goes well with coriander chutney: Just add coriander ,Chilli,ginger,yoghurt ,salt and 
    grind well in the food processor,Quick chutney is ready.
3.  If desired,you can also squeeze little lemon juice after you turn off from heat. I prefer  
     without the lemon juice.
