Kozhi Kulambu/Chicken Kulambu

Kozhi kulambu :
Chicken kulambu with potaoes is a very good combination. I was very bored of making chicken korma, so i made this chicken kulambu. My mom learnt this kozhi kulambu from her MIL, a very aromatic kulambu goes well with hot rice. This is a spicy kozhi kulambu dish. 


Ingredients:


Chicken 1 kg

Potato : 4 nos

For Masala:


Dry  Red Chilli - 15

Coriander Seeds - 1 Tbsp ( Roasted)
Coconut-1/4 cup
Poppy Seeds: 50 gm
Fennel seeds: 2 tbsp
Ginger -1 inch
Garlic- 15 nos
Cloves: 5
Coriander Leaves- 1 sprig.
Oil for cooking
Salt for taste

To Saute :

Onion :200 gm ( You can use Shallots also)
Garlic:10 nos
Cinnamon:1'
Cardomon:4
Curry Leaves:1 Sprig

Preparation:

1. Chop the onions and tomatoes finely.
 2. Grind all the ingredients mentioned for masala to a fine paste.



Method:

1. In a kadai with oil add cardomon ,cinnamon curry leaves and saute well, Then add garlic and onions and stir until onions become transperant.now add the chicken and stir until the water from the chicken drains.


2.Add  turmeric powder and stir well and then add the tomatoes followed by the  ground  masala paste and salt.











3. Stir well until the masala combines well with chicken,Now add the potatocubes to it.
 finally add suffcient water and keep it in medium heat until the chicken and potatoes  are cooked.

5.Finally add coriander leaves  and turn off the stove.



Tips:
1. You can make this kulambu only with chicken.
2. For additional spiciness you can add extra green chillies when you saute.
3.You can add lime juice after you turn off if you prefer a tangy taste.
4. Instead of poppy seeds you can add 10 cashews nuts when grinding,this gives nutty and rich flavour to the kulambu.
5.I have used small nattu poondu to this kulambu.
