Thakkali Thokku/ Tomato Thokku

Sharing my Yum Yum Yummy Thakkali Thokku /Tomato Thokku recipe , My all time favourite Thakkali thokku, This recipe can be made in large quantities and can refrigerate and used for minimum 2 weeks.If you are travelling and need a handy chutney.. Then start preparing this right now.When i was in the hostel ,I used to bring it from home just finish it in 2 days. This will be a perfect side dish for Idly,Dosa, Chapatti, rice.



Ingredients:
Tomato - 10 nos
Chilli    - 10 nos
Fenugreek seeds -2 tbsp
Mustard seeds -2 tbsp + 1 more tbsp for tempering.
Curry leaves- 1 sprig
Asafoetida -2 tbsp


Method: 

1. Boil the tomatoes for  10 minutes and peel the outer Skin and grind well in a mixer.

2.In a kadai with oil , add mustard when it cracks, add the fenugreek seeds and chilli  and roast for a minute then cool it and grind to a coarse paste.

3.In a kadai,add sufficient oil and add mustard when it cracks, add asafoetida  and curry leaves ,then add the tomato puree to it.

4. When it starts to boil add salt and  chilli paste.

5. Keep in medium heat and stir occasionally.

6. When it reaches a thick consistency turn off from heat and preserve in a air tight container if you want to use for a long time.                   


















Tips:
1. If you want your Thakkali thokku/Tomato Thokku  to be spicy,add more red chillies to it.
2. You can add tamarind extract,if you want more tangy taste.
3.For sweet and spicy Thakkali thokku/Tomato Thokku, Add tamarind extract and jaggery when making this thokku.
4. Gingely Oil is used to bring the flavor of this thakalli thokku so don't replace it.

5. Don't add more fenugreek,it thakkali thokku/Tomato Thokku might become bitter.
